I think there’s little point in discussing abortion. There’s no political issue that has been hashed, rehashed and hashed over again than this one and it’s also the one where people opinions are the most entrenched.

I think that the thought experiment is moot. I think we all know how that would turn out. I support pro-choice. No one should be forced to bring an unwanted baby into this world. I am totally on board with that notion within reason (reason being that there is some cutoff as to when you can terminate, it's an either you do or do not want it question, and as an adult capable of having sex and getting pregnant you should be able to suss out whether you want it or not).

That comes with a caveat, and always should have since abortion, and child support became a thing. The female who is pregnant should be required to disclose the pregnancy to the father upon learning of her condition. Further, if there is any foot dragging, or attempt to obscure it from the father she would be considered to be committing fraud. He then has the option to "nope" out of the situation and tell her that he does not want it. She now has a choice, end it with his help, or proceed knowing that there will be no support from him. If she chooses to abort with that knowledge, he is on the hook for half the cost. If she continues, they cut ties in that regard entirely, he is not in the baby's life, has no claim, nor responsibility to it. Game over, case closed.

I think that abortion came around with the intent that women would do the right and logical thing without being given any consequence. For instance, the guy isn't going to hang around, she should not have the kid because it would be impossible to raise on her own. We all know, or are learning, that is not the way it works. Women tend to be self-absorbed, and selfish, the life that kid is going to have is secondary to her having an accessory that says look how tough I am, I can raise this brat on my own. (all on the government dime - i.e. men's dime through taxes, or child support). Back to point though, it was imagined that no consequence would be necessary. Now we have a plague of single mothers to show for it, and the rules need to catch up with the times. Men need to be given the financial abortion option. I believe that this would drastically reduce the number of single mothers, and lax morals that drive conservatives crazy, while leaving the abortion option on the table for those who actually need it. This isn't obviously going to change anything for the die hard lifers, sorry about that, but it would correct a number of problems, balance the scales a bit more, and give the most freedom to the most people.

we all agree that something is killed (a baby, a person, a human, a ball of cells, a piece of tissue, etc.). All that is up for debate is the value of that which is killed. Is it as disposable as a menstrual period? Is it the next Einstein, Tesla, Jefferson, Jobs, or Musk (or even someone who helps one of these people accomplish their goals)?

In my opinion you get 8 weeks. After that the baby has a heartbeat, blood a brain forming etc....and the right to live. Plenty of alternatives to keeping a baby. For gods sake you can even drop the baby off at any fire station or police department and they take it, no questions asked.

I got my girlfriend pregnant when we were 17 and had an abortion. At 49 it still haunts me today.
