Another point that's been lingering on my mind lately is that society for the most part always pushes this idea that women are the more selective breeders because they are charged with the care of the offspring.

This presumption that men will fuck just about anything because evolutionary biology says men want to spread their seed. That women are selective and men shoot sperm like a shotgun. This couldn't be more far from the truth.

It's true that women would have to breastfeed and stay with the child until it is capable of some level of cognitive thought (usually around 5 years of age). But the greater investment comes from the male, who has to go out into the world and earn a living to support the child and protect the child. Also, it is well documented that females have a 6 year mating cycle, i.e. if they don't have any new young with a male, they will probably leave the Male and the MALE's CHILDREN and go searching for another mate in order to diversify the spread of her genetics. At which point it is the man who is left to maintain the child from early age to adulthood.
