Let me have a hypothesis: There are 4 possibilities.

Neither one wants them. This would not be needed.

She wants them, but the guy does not. He would just give them to her cause what a fucking petty thing to fight over.

He wants them, but she does not. She might want to fight over them just because it is a fucking petty thing to fight over.

Both want them. He might just give them up because it is a fucking petty thing to fight over.

I bet that she might not even want them, except to annoy him and he fights over them just because he knows that they matter absolutely nothing to her.
