I'm finishing my Master's of Engineering in 2 weeks in Biomedical Engineering. Don't have a job set in stone just yet, but have been in contact with a company for 4 weeks now after my phone interview with them. Trying to negotiate a start date with them (it's been a week since I sent my last email, really hoping I get the ok before the end of the week).
All of that aside, I've had to work with a group of 3 girls on a semester long project for a class (we were randomly assigned to work together). Now, we have some meetings where everyone is productive and we all leave the meeting feeling good about our progress. However, there are other meetings when at least 2 out of 3 of the girls are glued to their phones (probably texting Chad, because as soon as their phones buzz they pick it up like a millisecond later). It's fucking ridiculous. These girls are incredibly capable people, but from what I've observed this semester they're so glued to talking to Chad at such a high percentage of the time. It got to a point one week where I cancelled the meetings and just told them to do their work from home because the meetings didn't seem to be working for them in terms of productivity. I never got a reply from any of them, but we just didn't do the meetings that week. We're still in communication regarding assignments, but don't really meet anymore. I wouldn't say I hate my group because they are intelligent when they try, but when I'm sitting there trying to put together a presentation and sometimes all 3 of them are immersed in texting Chad, it makes me want to blow my brains out. Long and short of it, I can't wait to be done with school. I'd like to think that these things don't happen in industry, but I'm sure it's eerily similar...
This ties back to what I don't understand about gynocentrism. They're trying to push more and more women into STEM, but the women don't really seem to want to be a part of it. These girls are smart, but they really don't seem like they give a fuck at all. I don't give that much of a fuck either regarding school at the moment. I'm a grad student just concerned with finishing my degree. I have a really good GPA, I don't give much of a shit if I end up with an A or a B in this class, but I'm still going to put in effort and not let my group down. The left complains about the wage gap that does not exist, when the reality of it is simple: women mainly don't want to work in these fields. They don't want to do computer science, or mechanical engineering. It's just nature. I don't understand why it's happening (women being pushed into these fields), but it's crippling our society.
I've noticed first hand that our school has let more and more women into our school over the years for this reason, to balance the "gender gap" that we had. My roommate is a TA for a Calc 2 class, and has noticed that hardly any of the girls in the class know what a fucking fraction is. They're so under qualified to be at this school, yet they got accepted because they have a vagina. At the same time, men who are WAY more qualified are getting rejected. This is why society is going down the toilet, and it undoubtedly deserves to. Don't get me wrong, there are smart girls at this school as well. However, there are next to none that are willing to put in a consistent work ethic to be a productive, potentially world altering part of society. I'm not saying it's everyone's duty to be that kind of a person, but they just don't seem that interested or passionate about what they're majoring in. They'd rather make plans to see Chad in the middle of a god damn meeting and text him incessantly for 45 minutes. They can fuck themselves. We set these times to do work. And this is why we haven't met in 3 weeks. Bloody hell. Can't wait to graduate and be out of this hell hole. I know industry won't be much better in terms of gynocentrism, but being in an incredibly blue state at a university is just hell. Sorry, needed to vent a little.
