It's all about money. Women control 73% of discretionary spending (their salaries and their SO's salaries combined) so they also control the advertisers. The advertisers control print and broadcast media with those purse strings and until that changes all media, imagery, and public messaging will be gynocentric.

When you said images, it really made me think back to the Catholic Restoration. I mean the most elaborate paintings, sculptures, and architecture in the world, all for the sake of using images to influence others. Now only the medium has changed.
