A few posts popping up the last few days about chivalry, holding the door for women reminded me of something that happened a few months back.

I was going to a store in a strip mall that is located next to a Starbucks. I'm walking across the parking lot, and saw some bubbly 20 something with purple hair walking, obviously to the starbucks to get her 20 word description cup of 'coffee'. She sees me heading in that general direction (the door to the place I was going is right next to the starbucks door).

She gets to the door to the starbucks (I'm still about 20-25 feet away) and she opens it just barely enough to squeeze in sideways, obviously to make me realize she's not going to be a victim to patriarchy, or chivalry, and in doing this stupid maneuver, manages to scrap her ankle pretty badly across the metal door frame (it looked really effing painful).

She's standing there, looking at her ankle, obviously in pain, and giving me the evil stare like somehow its my fault, as I'm walking by just shaking my head.

I grab the door to the starbucks, open it completely and say "You know these things do open all the way."

I close the door, her on the inside, me on the outside, turn, and continue on my way. I'm sure she was shooting darts out of her eyes.

Congrats purple haired warrior, you earned your battle scars fighting something that is now imaginary because your kind killed it years ago.
