What’s the deal with video games? What’s the deal with sex? What’s the deal with D&D?

It’s entertainment to distract you. Enjoy it, don’t enjoy it, who cares!

Do what you want, and let others do what they want.

Sports is big because a lot of people doing it. That’s all.

the most hardcore sports people tend to have no lives outside of their job other than sports. trust me my dad was one and he wasted his life because of drinking & watching football

Full disclaimer: I like sports, but am in no, way, shape or form, a fanatic. I just casually watch. If my team wins...great. If not....doesn’t affect my life in the least bit. It’s just entertainment. I don’t memorize stats, because I have other important things to focus on.

Having said that, I completely agree with you. I don’t “fan crush” on favorite sports players, or wear their name on my back, as well. I always thought it was pretty gay.

Sports were invented to keep the sheep distracted. Because, after the elite get done working them 40-60 hours per week, they need to keep the rest of their time occupied.

Otherwise, they might realize how badly they’re getting fucked by the system. The main reason sports exist is to serve as a distraction.

Also, to satisfy the tribal urges of the subconscious animalistic brain. Otherwise, that tribalistic aggression might be taken out on the elite.

It's fun? You get to take pride in your city when the team does well, get to bond with other people over a subject that transcends class, education, or racial background and doesn't touch onto religion or politics. And watching athletes perform is something to appreciate itself -- the level of skill and mastery that goes into it. Not to mention the strategy, the excitement, anticipation when you're emotionally invested in a game.

If you're talking about the screaming idiots who take it too seriously though... then yeah. Same reason for jingoism and xenophobia, basically. Trying to manufacture an identity.

Sports were created to placate People . The People were unhappy with the rulers , so they gave them something to let out frustration, and aggression . This started with the Gladiators. Modern sports my be fun to play, but to me are boring and mindless. Watching football or baseball for example is like watching a rerun hundreds of times.

It combines a lot of male traits.

Planning, training, competition, strength, exploring the unknown, tribalism, etc.

It’s one of the first reality shows.

Edit: there’s a difference between not getting something and not wanting to get something.

I’m not a sports guy.. but I do get it.

...and think, you could pay hundreds or thousands of dollars a year to support these teams and players who otherwise don't know you exist and don't care.

I'd rather play a sport than watch it, but even then, playing sports is one of the last things I want to do.

Herd Instinct, tribalism. Rooting for a Team makes you 'part' of it, in a sense, and you get emotionally and sometimes financially invested in their success.

That it's entirely illogical unless you're actually playing the game doesn't bother many guys that love watching sports.
