I had an encounter like this once. In my native country women don't sit with unknown men, at least the traditionalists don't.

I was a kid, 13 or 14 sitting next to a very drunk guy. And a woman with a very young infant demanded that I let her sit. I gave up my seat. Tried the same shit with the drunk guy, so that she can also sit with her sister or someone who came with her, and he didn't even look at them.

Later I found that her family/friends with two older ladies, possibly in-laws, were sitting at the end of the compartment.

Now approaching 30, I have issues with my ankles - mild case of arthritis. And I only stand for old or more disabled men, if women demand my seat, I point the finger to the next sitting woman.
