I don't see the "bro culture" represented by Kalnick et al as anything but bog-standard blue-pill pussy chasing, combined with frat-boy antics and yet also doubtless "white knighting" (ironic as it seems, they go hand in hand).

Moreover, I really don't see Uber as a "tech" company -- it's more of a scam/sham (and arguably RICO) operation.

Finally, it isn't a "victim" of anything... any wounds/damage are entirely self-inflicted (especially considering the whole "6 women" on the board, LOL) and entirely predictable.

EDIT: In fact, I'll go even further and note that this may in fact just be "part of the plan" -- being that Uber IS in fact a "scam" operation -- this present scenario creates at least a PLAUSIBLE way for Kalnick et al to "exit" the company... and thus leave with the loot (as much as they can grab on the way out) while shifting/disclaiming any responsibility for the company's demise (its inevitable demise and "crash": given it's perpetual UN-profitability, major hemorrhaging of cash, and massive liability exposure). After all, will anyone REALLY be surprised if -- once it is entirely "female led" -- the company crashes? Will anyone want (or DARE) to "investigate" said crash? Ergo what better "cover" could they possibly create... this is sort of the "perfect" exit strategy.

Now... all we have to do is wait for Melon Tusk to copy it -- maybe he can bring Amber Heard on-board TESLA in a "C" suite role -- because he too needs a plausible "exit" strategy.

I don't judge these things on their face value, because that really is stupid to do.

Is it likely (given the current proportions of genders still in high powered business roles and tech roles.) That this new board and such is as good or the best set of people possible (which would, statistically, due to availability be largely men...) ... No. Not likely, but not impossible either.

Greater concern for me is that some selections made may have placed sub-par or outright incompetent people in critical roles which is a disservice to the candidate business and the cause of getting more women to that level in general.

Basically, if you are basing hiring or selection on diversity you had better make god damn sure your candidate is exceedingly likely to succeed, or you may be harming grievously both the individual and the cause, as well as your organization.

None of that really allows for saying this is on its face a bad move. If I'd place a bet... Well, hard to say. Possibly bad moves but this will buy them lots of credibility which is very important.
