I'd say it depends on what it is, but in general, 50/50. In the beginning, it was as Stephan Molyneux puts it, eggs for resources. In modern times, since women's liberation and suffrage, it's far less so. Now men are waking up and just doing for themselves and no one else.

Noted exceptions: exploration and empire building at elite levels. Those were more for bragging rights among hyper competitive men.

I think it might be a case of doing something productive has rewards and women are attracted to someone with large rewards. I can't see any of the most productive advancements to society being first a pussy bait before it's actual use to society.

I know for me, once I went mgtow I lost a lot of motivation for anything. I was vastly more productive when I believed in love.

Unfortunately, a lot. Males are socialized from birth to serve females. When they no longer have any incentive to do so, they become depressed. That is what has been happening since the 1960s.
