I want to change jobs/careers but have no idea where to start

Armed forces will teach you a lot about yourself, others, the world. I joined, after a long enough career in an office (as an engineer), as an officer in my 30s. The pay is ok, training is free, camaraderie is second to none. You'll come out a more rounded person with some experience or you'll stay in perfecting your trade and training the next lot

Edit: I'll expand a little because I was where you're at years ago. If you have the money, and can afford not to work, or reduce your hours, retraining is a decent path. Doing something vocational as you say (electrician/plumbing) might be a good option because working with your hands is often rewarding.

I have degrees, if I had my time again I would not have gone to uni, I would have joined the military or been a mechanic or electrician or done an apprenticeship. Unfortunately, by the time I realised I wanted a change, I reached too high a salary to take a cut and the mortgage meant I couldn't afford to not work, so it wasn't feasible to learn something full time and there were no part time courses available that I wanted.

Some good courses, if you can afford the odd week off, and have the cash, are things like CCNA and COMPTIA - you can build on these in your own time. Jobs wise if you want something different there's always the merchant sea, working on yachts or cruise liners etc either for a season or full time.

A trade school is generally a very good idea. How about inter-state truck driving; it combines travel, meeting new people, preferential treatment in restaurants, your own place, time for yourself, etc.? If you don't like traveling, then take heavy equipment (the costs for these type of trades are within reasonable limits). Man, stay away from the military.

go back to school to get an IT degree

That IT degree is going to be useless in four years and that's a generous estimate.

If you want to do IT, you would be better served going on Amazon, buying some books, and getting certifications.

go to a votec or trade school and learn a trade, like an electrician or plumber, where it's a little more work but pay is amazing I hear as most people don't want to do those jobs anymore so those that do have great job security

Yep. Welders are retiring and America has come to the sudden realization that drilling its own oil might be better than buying it from the Democratic People's Republic of Outer Jihadistan. But somebody's going to have to build those pipes and refineries.

Military is hit or miss. You have a degree so you qualify to go in as an 2nd Lt. instead of enlisted, so that's good for your money and your military job. But despite what the recruiter tells you, the military ultimately puts you where they want you. But you give them 4 years, you get vet benefits, extra points on any federal job application, etc.
