I think there is difference when you kill animal for sake of consumption vs sake of killing. In one scenario you do it as part of survival and in the other for fun I guess.

Yea, but it's not really hypocrisy if those who eat meat say that they don't condone abuse of animals. Same as killing someone from self defense is not same as killing someone for fun and telling them "well, you are a hypocrite for saying that we should not kill others, you killed that guy, didn't you?". Reasons behind actions matter.

As for going vegan I did try it myself, as usual did heavy research before and seemed to be following all the guidelines, but my stomach stopped working one week after doing that. Felt super heavy and like it was simply not processing food, at first thought that I need to wait for body to adjust, but after a month it was still feeling heavy(not like let the fart out heavy, but heavy). So I decided to go back to eating meat. Might try it again in future(maybe ease body into it by going vegetarian first), but will see. I have never been someone who is hungry for animal products, so mentally it was super easy for me not to eat animal products. Only inconvenience was need for checking labels on every product I bought.
