Afaik, women generally only enhanced their skin, covering over imperfections and giving themselves a glow. Not drastically going from a dark tan to a Caucasian white!

I feel like he should have known the amount she was putting on. Women who put loads of makeup on are pretty ugly without it in my opinion. Poor guy, literally cstfished in person.
