I had a college sweetheart - nice girl actually - but one day she got furious at me because I said I believed in prenups. I was shocked how angry she was; unlike most arguments we had, she stood her ground and didn't let up.

I was arguing as a matter of principle. After all, I had a crap GPA in a worthless major and was considering dropping out. She had top grades in a good field with extracurriculars and experience. I didn't see why she cared so much - if anything, a prenup would protect her since I'd be working at Starbucks.

10 years after school, we caught up and I was in fact raking in more than twice her pay. After having a blast in my 20's goofing off and being irresponsible, I finally got serious about a career, and she had fallen off her path and drifted. I didn't see any of it coming, but she instinctively knew.

I don't think she did anything wrong; she was doing what came naturally. I don't trust myself with women anymore because they are much better at sizing up these situations - it's in their nature. I just want to do my own thing!
