K. You can't just take a figure out of a paper and say that's all the proof required. Thats not how good research is done. Link the paper. I to read this and find out what they did and how they did it. For all I know that could be male and female fish.

Does nobody understand how science and journal articles work? Jesus Christ. One article (of a very, very small subject pool) alone rarely proves or disproves anything.

if it wasn't useful to have more synapses, evolution would have kept that number low, to save energy.

That's not how evolution works. Evolution is random mutations occurring; if members of the population with that mutation reproduce, then they very slowly introduce that new mutation into society - be it beneficial or detrimental to the person. Obviously if it's extremely detrimental than that member will not survive and thus that mutation will not be passed on. Evolution doesn't just magically select out bad things. Keeping synapses lower doesn't "save energy."

This study isn't great. It involves people with epilepsy who have been shown to have a vastly different brain structure than us, so translation to "normal" humans is difficult. In addition, it only had 8 total subjects. They even mention the limited scope of the study:

Nevertheless, we would caution the reader that the main limitation in this kind of study is that we have virtually no data about the synaptic density in biopsy samples of the strictly normal human neocortex.

I see, Neanderthal brains where 10%+ larger then human brains, how come they are not around ? Elephant brains are 5x the size of human brains, how come they have not built cars.

This entire post shows ignorance of how the brain functions. Synapses can be increased.

"To save energy"

This is everything you need to know about why males and females are biologically different.

Females are designed to consume less energy, to survive famine better, to store energy for gestation of offspring, etc. Men are bigger, stronger, faster because the Y chromosome is there to be experimented on by natural selection. We're essentially here for nature to conduct trials before bringing the product to market. Females are designed to do the minimum biologically to maximise results with minimal risk; males are designed to expend extensive amounts of energy at larger risk to the individual in order to see what works.
