After being in a dead relationship for 9 years, I vowed to myself that it won't ever happen again. I'm almost 36. I've been single by choice for over 4 years. I don't date. I make friends. Some turn into friendlationships. Which basically my term for close friends. I have several. They're my best friends.

But the feeling of being stuck. The attention going from none stop at the beginning. Then a couple years later, you notice the attention and affection fade. And in the majority of long term relationships, especially those with no thoughts of marriage, when it starts to fade, one side keeps trying. Unfortunately, I tried longer than I should have.. by 7 years.

To anyone young, and in the puppy love stages of life, I tell them they need to learn and understand themselves first.... Being in a relationship at 18-19 might sound fun. But it's not a trip to Disneyland. It's a full-time job... 24/7, 365. You are half of a team. It's not 50/50 in a relationship. You both better give 100%, through everything that gets thrown at you.
