What are the red pill's thoughts on social life and friendships as a guy gets older and leaves the school/college settings?

Caught this just as I'm settling in for the night so I'll keep it short. I'm 36 now. I've found that friendships are far fewer in quantity, but much higher in quality than in my early 20's. My social life was almost constant back then. Always around others, friends, roommates, peers; meeting new people all the time, going out to different restaurants, theaters, visiting, and parties. I may enjoy a few hours with a friend once or twice a month now. Bills are a lot higher and i provide for a family so working is my top priority at the moment. Free time is spent playing with my daughter after I get home from work or trying to squeeze in a little game time on my day off. For me, my life is a completely different world than 15yrs ago.

My recipe:

Become financially independent. Choose a path that won't tie you to a desk, and of course don't get married.
Cultivate some hobbies that will be shared with people in your age group. Could be that you're big into wine. Could be that you collect something (non-neckbeardy nerdish, art is preferred). At the very least do some sport like golf or join a squash ladder. This will keep you engaged with people your own age though they will be otherwise getting married off. The big problem about social circles is that your friends will get married off and vanish. So you need to find ties outside of just liking hanging out with each other that married people may do to get away from their wife. You need this for a big reason. If all your socializing is with young girls that like older guys or with post-wall women wanting to get married, you will certainly go insane. There is a limit to how much inane shit you can listen to from every girl in their 20s you will continue to want to interact with. Each one of them will tell you how yoga can cure cancer and they will be pouring each one of their new-found discoveries in life right into you. Doesn't matter that you heard it all 20+ years ago and thought it was stupid back then. They will talk to you like you are a newborn puppy and you will need to maintain your frame through listening to the bullshit. So, your sanity out is maintaining some correspondence with your peer group and people who have shared some life experiences. Sports are good because they keep you in shape. Art is good because if you study it it helps keep your mind in shape.
Travel. A lot. At the very least posting your journeys on instagram and facebook will piss off the married folk. Travel opens your eyes, enriches your experiences, makes you more interesting, gives you stories to talk about with younger women. Young people are usually fascinated by travel so this gives you something that you can talk about with them that will bridge the age gap. Because you probably will think their music is shit and don't give too many fucks about fashion and right there with listening to retread stupid shit you listened to from girls when you were in your 20s, you burn about 90% of what they will have to talk about.

It's not the easiest of roads, sometimes you will find yourself musing of what life would be like had you gotten married and had those kids... but if you have siblings who got married you can always spend an afternoon with their kids. If you are like me you will enjoy it but find it 100% exhausting and realize that you could never do that on a daily basis.

If you find a cute young thing and can take her with you on your travels after a week spent dealing with their shit and babysitting them and being combined travel agent / tour guide / etc. you will be exhausted too and be happy that you part ways when it's over and you don't have to deal with that also on a day in and day out basis.

Once you get a taste of real true freedom you will find that it's really hard to give up.

The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, which is why it's important to camp on your neighbor's lawn every now and then so you can look back over the fence at your own lawn and admire how nice and neat and clean and simple it is.

Your friends probably will be jealous as well.

Figure out what you want purpose wise. Are you going into business, public speaking, volunteering, fitness, sport? A bit of more than one?

Join local groups accordingly.

Also, don't underestimate the power of social interaction. Isolation will change your brain chemistry. Get out and get involved.

Personally, I volounteer once a week, joined an mma club, try and attend networking conferences in weekend day time, joined toastmasters, and party once every two weeks. Spare time is set for passive income streams and reading.

The steady stream of new girls I meet also keeps me motivated to hustle.

Overall - so much happier and more satisfied in life after turning 30. I have as many friends as I have time for. For many people I'm sure this is not the case, but then most people stop working on themselves...

A social life after college is less about being surrounded forcibly by people and more about you making it yourself. I'm only 25 but I learned fast that lesson. Meeting people your own age or close to it after college isn't easy. In fact I find it hard to meet new people around my age because I went ahead and decided to do things rather than drink all the time on the weekends like most guys my age still do. I volunteer at a local museum on the weekends and twice a week I take fencing classes. I got involved in those things because I wanted to expand my hobbies and meet new people. I did meet new people just not people close to my age as most were older than I am. I don't view this as a bad thing at all. Despite some guys being older, I still get a good bout from them on the fencing strip and with the museum, I get to meet people and have experiences that I would never have been able to get if I were actively trying to meet people close to my age by going to bars every weekend where most go. Besides how many guys can say they get to ride in a World War 2 Sherman Tank? A social life after college is pretty much like college. It's what you make of it. You shouldn't rule out becoming friendly with people because of an age difference or any other reason. Just get out and look for things to do and have fun while doing it and over time you will meet new people.

25 years after graduation I still don't associate with anyone from high school. Surround yourself with people who encourage you, not those who want to hold you back. You want friends? Go make new ones that share your vision and help you build your empire.

Finding guys that are genuinely interesting or actually heading somewhere in life is tough.

It's easy to chat up your average guy and build some superficial friendship in a bar or w/e but most guys aren't going anywhere, will sell out their best friend for pussy etc.

Do stuff. You meet people by finding stuff that you like to do and talking to the other people who aren't isolating themselves.

For example; i've met loads of people just skateboarding around my local streets. This is actually a ~~easy~~ guaranteed way to meet a weed dealer (happens every time) if you've got no contacts and consider it a fun afternoon to spend 4-5 hours cruising around.

Do we hype up the school experience

The shallow blogs written by 20-somethings might idealize the time when they were surrounded by potential friends and it probably is a time in your life when making friends is really easy simply due to opportunity. But realistically these people just got used to the social crutch that is inevitable when you shove a few hundred people of the same age into the same establishment.

Socializing is a simple as finding common ground with a stranger.
