False equivalency (which is inevitable in a practice as unreliable as statistics).

Men who get married have no choice but to find a job that allows them to earn enough income to support a family. That includes enough money to save, invest and as with everything when it comes to women, spend. Putting in this effort puts them in the top earning percentile of the nation and even the world.

In the UK, there was recently a report where wealthy people were complaining about how they were paying most of the nation's taxes while half the nation didn't even bother to file their taxes

The truth is, money has been flowing back to the top and staying there for decades now. The 99% have almost no wealth left between them either in terms of physical commodities (gold, etc.) or paper FIAT currency. 8 people have almost the same amount of wealth as 50% of the world's population.

Most people (ie. MEN, the only gender that actually pays taxes) are single can live on a relatively small income if they are smart with money. Most people live paycheque to paycheque. Most people, including women, earn minimum wage or less, and in the US, Congress constantly refuses to raise the minimum wage ceiling. Hence, most people do not meet the income tax threshold when you take deductions and credits into account.

Consequently, if you are married you are likely to search for a high income job that can support a family. If you are single and stuck in low wage, its a struggle but manageable because you only have 1 mouth to feed. You earn less, you pay lower taxes. Since singledom is now the majority (single households now outnumber married couples 52% to 48%) most people don't have much incentive to move beyond their threshold. So, if you are married you are likely paying more taxes.

The rest of the puzzle is explained by the fact that when you keep all the money at the top, the top has to pay the taxes back to the system they took it from. So rich people deserve to pay taxes. I'm poor, single and tax-free.

Marriage is mostly for upper- and upper middle- classes these days.
Those are also the ones paying the most in taxes (and probably using less of most government services as well.)

If you think about Hypergamy, and about womens' entry into the workplace, this makes sense. Politicians, CEOs, professionals - they can afford to support a traditional wife, and there are plenty of women who are in to that.

Joe lunchpail doesn't make much (or any) more than some female teacher or RN. If they don't do a two-income thing, they aren't going to have the sort of lifestyle portrayed on TV. So, he can't really provision.

If he isn't alpha, he also doesn't trigger the response to protect. We are rapidly drubbing any vestige of alpha behavior out of boys, sending them home for nibbling their poptarts into gun shapes and drugging them for acting male.

She is doing as well as he is on her own, which doesn't lead to attraction. He isn't higher than her in status or success or income or really, in anything.

Her hypergamy is ripe for the taking, and likely to make her whine about "where have all the good men gone."

Married men are slaves. They are forced to work more so that they can pay for both their wives and the government.

The three shackles that enslave the modern man are debt, sex, and taxes and these shackles serve banks, women, and government respectively.
