What a gem of an argument this columnist makes. Her conclusion "Women want to be treated as workplace equals, and they don’t want to be sexually harassed. If you are a man and this strikes you as unfair, ambiguous or damning, perhaps you don’t belong in the workplace at all."

She never acknowledges the most common and logical reason men don't want to be alone in a room with a woman - False accusations of harassment. Duh.

predictably they conflate "dine" and "dine alone". Any male (and females- though they would never admit it) everyone knows a woman can accuse you of anything and in this "always believe the woman" culture you're fucked. If the woman is proven to have lied she will not suffer any adverse consequences. Do they think no one is paying attention?

Women do the sexual harassement in the work place and if the man responds, she can make a false accusation.

If he doesn't respond to her advances, the woman is hurt and will make a false accusation.

What ever the scenario, the male employee is a target for sexual harassment or false accusation harassment.

This is why men have to plan their behaviour while around women in the workplace.

Of course, women can't comprehend this so they take it personally.

Feminism can thank itself for this inequality. To expand on that - feminists have influenced the legal system in such a way that men, and more specifically men of power, have to be very cautious when alone with women, and keep the occurrences infrequent. Rape and sexual harassment cases are less and less frequently presuming innocence until guilt is proven. Thank feminism for that. The consequence is this - If you're a man of power hiring for a subordinate position, you are weighing pros and cons of every candidate. If a person is going to constantly be out of the office, that's a consideration. Constantly sick? That's a consideration. If a woman who is a stranger is interviewing, naturally the ability to win a potential rape or sexual harassment case and completely destroy your career altogether, even if you are completely innocent, is a huge consideration. If I'm hiring, why do I even want to deal with that possibility, even if it's a small one? I'll pass.

I don't like Mike Pence by any stretch, but he is a man of power and I'm betting women are frequently making advances towards him. He actually respects and values his marriage enough to rid himself of the temptation that is inevitable with women constantly making advances at him. Good for him. Don't even put yourself in the situation. I don't even think it's about false claims to him.

The simple answer is he respects his wife and does not want to do anything that she may seem as inappropriate. He did not say he would not meet with women alone at the office.
