My neighbor is an escort. She told me that here in Canada, there's a website formerly called CERB (Canadian Escort Review Board)

It's a list of whores and their reviews. Not making that up :)

What she told me is that if the police ever used her to entrap and charge people, her reputation on that board would be shot and she wouldn't be able to get any clients.

In this instance, the cops set up a honeytrap to catch johns. They also used Backpage which is about the most irreputable website they could choose. Use a trusted source for your escort. Don't use the back page of the local paper.

To be honest, the older I get, the less I understand why prostitution is illegal, when dating is almost the same thing.

I mean, if i put up a dating profile that said "I'll take you to dinner, but I want the sex first" do you think you'd get arrested for that?

The legal consequences are probably milder than a bad divorce. .. but many of these ladies are basket cases. That's the real risk. See Charlize Theron in Monster to see the worst case scenario. Also here in Australia a guy got his head smashed in with his own object d'art for suggesting risque role playing that triggered his "date".
