So if you've going your own way for long enough, happily single, not looking, etc you will have heard someone tell you "You don't want to get married? But if you met the right woman, you'd get married right?" probably many times.

This statement bothered me a little bit for some time, not because it's true in practical terms, but because it is true in literal terms. It's a semantic trick where they define "right" to mean someone you'd want to get married to. It can basically be re-structured to state "You'd get married if you found someone you wanted to get married to right?" which is completely obvious and circular. Yes, and you also believe that murder is wrong but if you found the "right" person (defined as someone you could not resist murdering) then you'd be a murderer.

They don't like that you don't want to get married, so they define a person into existence that you just totally could not resist marrying.

My new response after that statement (depending on comfort level with person):

Me: Do you want to be a murderer?

Them: No, of course not

Me: You just haven't found the "right" person.
