I have a friend who is a small town cop. I'd hate doing that shit. He describes going to the same houses over and over again on domestic dispute calls. At some point he says he gets tired of going over to these places at all hours and just ends up arresting everyone in the house. If they call again, he does it again until they stop. I asked why he didn't just arrest the guy like 90% of the other cops, and he said it was because the woman would just take the guy back but then view the police as her personal enforcer and start calling them more often. Once the woman figures out that she is gonna get hauled in too the calls stop, generally with one of the couple moving out.

In general, cops just don't deal with people at their best. They get to deal with shitty people and shitty decision making almost 24/7.

You see, right there is why I could NEVER be a cop. My first inclination would be to shoot the two of them for criminal stupidity and then wander home feeling as though I'd done a good days work.
