When 2 guys at work don't get along, the first step is to completely disavow each others existence. Unless there is need for it.

Women will still pretend to be friends and just rip apart each other once they are apart.

Imagine our ancestors, for millions of years all the way back to before we came down from the trees our social relationships were driven by tribal dynamics. For men there were friends and there were enemies. It was easy to tell the differences: an enemy comes right at you with a sharpen rock stabbing, a friend has his back pressed against yours fighting off another enemy coming from behind. The other tribe is my enemy, my friends our my tribe. The selective pressure on men was to be strong, kill off the opposing tribe, drag back women, men instinctively learned to form groups, gangs, teams, allies, any rivalry inside the group had to be mended in order to achieve victory against the other tribes. Any personal problems were spoken of openly and solved quickly with fists, the loser submitted or was killed, better yet in the crucible of intra-tribal combat the winner and loser could learn respect of each other, train for when fighting the enemy and work together to survive.

For women it was very different, they had frenemies, they created that whole class of relationship. Each other women in the tribe was competition, a threat. You see for the female of our species the biggest threat was not external, other than the other tribes which the men dealt with, often at the prodding and nagging of the women. No the biggest threat was internal: the other women of the tribe, for which the attentions, affections, labors and assets of men were divided between, usually to the prettiest most fertile women first. Men could stand to lose many from inter-tribal violence, a few men could impregnate many spoils of war, but women could not stand to lose many from intra-tribal violence, women had to work together yet at the same time dispose of the competition. So the women had to go about it subtly, with subterfuge, passive-aggressive and with much manipulation. Hence why women evolved to be so socially orientated, hyper-sensitive to any slight, vindictive and never forgiving. Women could never trust another women, when she turned her back her frenemy would sway her friends with gossip, smother her babies or take her man, all why lying straight to her face.

In my experience, whenever a guy and I do not like each other, we just pretend the other doesn't exist. Whenever we have a project or have to work together, we both make it clear that the job is more important than our differing opinions. Weirdly enough, guys that used to bully me in high school im somewhat cool with now. They have matured(mostly) and settled themselves in.

I have the exact opposite reaction from women. Many women friends I have had in high school and in college I do not speak to anymore, on their choice. How do I best explain this?

Whenever I see a guy I used to work or go to school with, the reception is usually pleasant. They say hi, ask about your day...and try to be courteous. With women it is different...

Unless they are sexually attracted to you or value you as a friend, you can forget about even a simple hi. They will generally try to avoid you and tend to show some form of disgust at your presence.

Let me also point out social media interactions. You ever had a few female Facebook friends? Ever message some a simple "hi" and they never reply? Ever had a girl add you as a friend on that site, but when you speak to her she doesn't reply even when you know she saw your message?

Almost every guy Ive messaged has replied back, even if they had no reason to.

Women hate each other because in essentially everything they do, they see it as a competition, whereas the only competition males have truly done is for the sake of a woman.

Men think about survival. Women think about the apex....and since there is no true apex, they are like a cat finding a red dot.

They see it, and naively think they can obtain it, no matter who or what they look like or are capable of doing.

I've had a rough life (1st world standards). Lots of people have really done me wrong (pretty much all females, big surprise). I've let all of it go. I am unburdened by hate. I spend virtually no time thinking negatively about other people.

To say women don't understand me is an understatement.

Some issues:

We don't know that this is not cultural, it is very hard to distinguish something like 'biologically ingrained' here, even if they apparently see similar behaviour in chimps

The researchers are from THIS culture and their interpretations seem very heavily coloured by beliefs of our culture

There is no reason to make a leap from 'what people do after a sporting match' to 'the general ability of people to maintain relatiionships
