[Discussion] Fiction books with MGTOW themes or characters. Are there books written by writers that identify themselves with MGTOW ideals?

Chuck Palahniuk's Fight Club is practically a textbook about mgtowing. Fucking awesome book AND movie. Maddox's books are a good example, but he writes satire. Sam Knaip is definitely a contemporary example. I finished reading Muddy Men, a short novel about a man named Mamzer who is disillusioned with his life as a slave for a wife he doesn't love and a step-kid he despises and decides to take drastic measures to free himself. There are lines like this:

"The new boy started the van like a truck driver would. No way he was only seventeen. “Mamzer, do you ever wonder if your wife is getting banged? Like, right now?” “What kind of stupid question is that? Of course I do. That’s part of the job!” Eli seemed interested. “The wife getting some extra cock?” “No, just worrying about it”. “I caught my wife sucking cock last year”, Eli confessed, “I shoulda been at work”. “What did you do?” the new guy asked. “I got back to work. They didn’t see me”. We drove back in silence."

Mamzer ends up finding his own path and changing the life of other men around him. Fucking awesome.

Not really a book centered around MGTOW ideals, but a good fantasy book nonetheless, Steven Erikson's Malazan book of the Fallen series. The character Karsa Orlong immediately jumped into my mind. He essentially just does whatever the hell he wants and doesn't let a single person ever control him. Except for maybe one part of the story, but even then, his allowing himself to be manipulated is done to advance one of his own goals. He still ends up doing the exact opposite of what they expect him to do and generally fucks shit up everywhere he goes.

I'm going to note one that few will probably think of (though I doubt the author could be said to "identify" with MGTOW*), but one book whose major theme is definitely in-line with "MGTOW": Richard Bach's short & sweet Jonathan Livingston Seagull

It is almost a quintessential "MGTOW philosophy" book, and the story dramatically illustrates & contrasts both the dismal "rat race" that most of the population follows, and likewise via the hero/protagonist (and later students/disciples) illustrates the other option (and IMHO beautifully, almost poetically describing): that of "going it alone" and choosing to strive for something more than mere survival/procreation; perfection/leisure, etc.

A seagull never speaks back to the Council Flock, but it was Jonathan's voice raised. "Irresponsibility? My brothers!" he cried. "Who is more responsible than a gull who finds and follows a meaning, a higher purpose for life? For a thousand years we have scrabbled after fish heads, but now we have a reason to live - to learn, to discover, to be free! Give me one chance, let me show you what I've found..."

The Flock might as well have been stone.

"The Brotherhood is broken," the gulls intoned together, and with one accord they solemnly closed their ears and turned their backs upon him.

Jonathan Seagull spent the rest of his days alone, but he flew way out beyond the Far Cliffs. His one sorrow was not solitude, it was that other gulls refused to believe the glory of flight that awaited them; they refused to open their eyes and see.

He learned more each day. He learned that a streamlined high-speed dive could bring him to find the rare and tasty fish that schooled ten feet below the surface of the ocean: he no longer needed fishing boats and stale bread for survival. He learned to sleep in the air, setting a course at night across the offshore wind, covering a hundred miles from sunset to sunrise. With the same inner control, he flew through heavy sea-fogs and climbed above them into dazzling clear skies... in the very times when every other gull stood on the ground, knowing nothing but mist and rain. He learned to ride the high winds far inland, to dine there on delicate insects.

What he had once hoped for the Flock, he now gained for himself alone; he learned to fly, and was not sorry for the price that he had paid. Jonathan Seagull discovered that boredom and fear and anger are the reasons that a gull's life is so short, and with these gone from his thought, he lived a long fine life indeed.

If that text is not "MGTOW" (Or SGHOW "Seagull Going His Own Way"), then I don't know what is...

*Despite the fact that the author himself (a descendant of J.S. Bach, so such dissonance is not surprising) failed to live it/follow it -- getting married (and divorced & screwed-over financially & otherwise) multiple times -- and also penning a number of other (in essence diametrically opposite to MGTOW) books that heavily promote the "one true love/soul mate" concept. He seems to be incapable of following his own (JLS) advice, or of learning from his past mistakes, and instead keeps repeating them over and over.

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle maintenance comes to mind. It has nothing to do with the dynamics between men and women, but has strong MGTOW themes.
