Unfortunately there is little that you can do! I was in a similar situation (as your friend) and too naive to heed the warnings from my best friends. I am glad that I went through that experience of a 10+ year marriage and then alimony hell. Because I am now RP as fuck and well on my way to building a more fulfilling life than I could have ever imagined.

My true friends, however, stood by to help me get back on my feet after I finally decided to wake up.

Alimony is pretty rare these days.

For the most part the major debilitating costs of divorce are:

the divorce itself (spiraling legal costs).
the split of "marital property" (and the word split there is misleading, for the most part she ends up with any/all assets).
so called "child support".

The last is the real financial "ball and chain"... she (in collusion with the courts) will do everything possible to pump up the price tag of monthly "child support" -- and for the most part, very little will actually be spent on the children.
