Warning rant: I'm seriously considering going dark and moving away. A little about me, I'm 27 and live in a very family-oriented, East-African community in Canada. While many in my community are friendly and warm, they're also very concerned about status and avoiding shame. Here are some examples of things they're concerned about:
- How well their kids are doing monetarily or scholastically
- Whether they have a nice house, car, etc.
- How much influence they have in their social circles
Essentially, they're very concerned about keeping up with the Joneses; the complete opposite of what I want in life. I guess that's expected of many first generation immigrants. Side note: if you're interested in learning more about status anxiety, this documenary by Alan de Botton is a great watch.
It's also a community that expects their children to get married and have kids. After a certain age, if a person isn't married, it means there's something seriously wrong with them. My relatives casually talk about how I should treat my future wife and how to raise future kids as if it's some sort of certainty, never questioning whether I would want such a life. I nod in agreement and change the subject. In the back of my mind, I'm aware that this isn't what I want. I hate living such a duplicitous life and this is one of the reasons why I want to move away. It's sad that they're trapped and couldn't possibly envision a life where a person wouldn't want children or to get married. I guess it's human nature to want others to like what you like. It's also evolutionary adaptive to want your kids/relatives to procreate.
Also, I understand they ultimately fear growing old and dying alone. I'm thankful that going MGTOW has given me more time to come to terms with death and understanding what's best in life.
Mongol General: What is best in life?
Conan: Crush you're enemies. See them driven before you. Hear the lamentations of their women.
For me, it's not becoming attached to material things, appreciating friends, working hard, and having fun. I guess this is the end of my rant, I just wanted to get this off my chest, before I move. By the end of the year, I'll be going dark and will probably not see them until one of them dies. Oh well, such is life and I can't live the life other people want me to live.
tl;dr Considering moving away. Just wanted to get it off my chest before I go dark.
