I am a 39 year old divorced father of two. A little back story...

Got married and made babies too early to a woman I had no business being with. Early on I worked two jobs to provide and she stayed home to raise the kids. Eventually got a full time job that paid enough but the hours were long. Started having marital problems in my mid-to-late 20s. You know, the usual stuff like "You are never around!" or "I have sacrificed everything and you nothing!" kind of shit. Not long after that I busted my wife having an affair. We tried to make it work but the betrayal was too much for me, so I divorced her. I gave her custody of the kids and was introduced to the joys of child support. Oh joy of joys!

So I am almost 30 and suddenly single. I lost control of my life for about three years there. Drinking, drugs, and young women were my life. I checked myself into rehab at age 32 and it took about three years to fix the damage I had done to my life.

So now I am 35 and back on track. I am making a decent living and living right. My friends and family are all telling me to get remarried. My friend's wives are always telling me "You need to get a girlfriend so I have someone to talk to when you come over." I am dating and it's just not working for me. I go on numerous dates and meet some really cool women, but not "the one." When my friend's wives hit me with the girlfriend question I start answering with "Why do I need a girlfriend? I am completely happy." Needless to say I am shunned for being weird like that.

I decided to stop living to get a girlfriend and start living for me. I am almost 40 years old and I have a bucket list of things I want to do. I have two more years of child support left and I can't wait until all of my money is mine. I am currently the happiest I have ever been as an adult. Do I get lonely? Sure. Do I care? No. I wake up each day and do what I want to do.

Don't get me wrong like most people do. I don't hate women. Women are the most beautiful creatures on the planet. However, women are like luxury cars. It costs a lot to ride in one, you know? And outside of regular sex I just don't see any other benefit of having a woman in my life. I just want to be the best Dad I can be to my kids and enjoy life.

So that's my story. It's been awesome lurking here for the past few weeks because I was getting worried that something was wrong with how I feel. Am I saying I will remain single forever? No, but any woman I put in my life has to bring more to the table other than that thing between her legs.
