"The exception should care for the rule, and take care, lest he try to make the exception into the rule, and thereby stop being an exception."
I didn't discover TRP at the start of my quest for game and social dominance. In fact, I only discovered it after I had been doing this shit for a while.
When I took the pill, I learned massively. A lot of the things I did were wrong af. Some of the other things I did were "wrong," but had given me plenty of success. So I began to question and self-question. This series is the result of that.
Part One: Masculinity vs. The Feminine
Everyone has both masculine and feminine sides. According to the Book of Pook, the most polarized masculine and most polarized feminine meet and neutralize - hence chads and HB9s. But although we have all this interesting rhetoric, research, and infield, we still seem to misconstrue shit.
Keep this in mind. Rules are relative. They alter based on context. However, the thing about social rules is, they're not man-made laws (defined by their breakability) but natural laws. In other words, everyone always follows the rules, whether they know it or not, succeed or fail. Recognizing how these rules act and vary is the key to success.
If you're a kingshit alpha, rules change. The guy buying drinks for a girl who owns the club and the guy buying drinks for a girl as a hapless beta hanger-on are not following the same application of the rule.
For example, let's talk about fashion. If you are off-the-charts masculine, there's only two ways to go, dress-wise. You can either go understated masculine, or off-the-charts. This is because of contrast and conflict. If you are super masculine and dominant, adding masculine accoutrements to your wardrobe is only going to diminish the perception, like hitting the gas pedal on your car while you're coasting downhill. (Otherwise, you're communicating that you're a tryhard. Like in David Dieda's book, masculinity-seeking and masculinity are not the same thing. We seek masculinity when we're at a deficit. Trying to be ultra-masculine can end up creating the impression of a lack that needs to be filled.)
Think about how Russian oligarchs dress. Blue jeans and bubblegum. Taleb calls this 'freedom signalling', in other words, I'm communicating that I stand outside the normal hierarchy, which has to dress to impress. Which is a very powerful thing, for alphas and omegas alike. In many species in nature, omegas are far more likely to become alphas than betas are. Although it's much better to be an outsider at the top, being an outsider at the bottom suffices too.
How does this play into masculinity and femininity? Do tell. What do we think when we see a man with a pink bandana in his pocket, earrings, a little neck scarf, skintight jeans and glittery bracelets and necklaces? Something is broken with his masculinity, or something is broken with his social sense. Now what if that guy acts, talks, walks, alpha as fuck? What do we think then?
Take Prince. 5'2", but manly and alpha in every endeavor - from fucking your girl to basketball and pancakes. Apparently, that basketball story is true - and there are dozens of other stories of Prince doing high level skilled shit that you wouldn't expect. In fact, that is exactly his power, the unexpected. We see a man in a purple velvet... garb, and we think, he must be gay/BPD/weak. And then when he's not... It fucks us up. Which is the point.
Rule. If x is true, and we create the perception of its opposite y, when the conflict collapses, x will be strengthened beyond if we had just begun with x. This lends itself to advanced peacocking.
Young Thug is an excellent example of this. I might write a whole article on the theory of frame just from Thugger's life and career. Does anyone think that wearing a dress has harmed his career? Wearing a dress should be suicide in the masculine posturing of the rap community, but it's not, at least for Thug. So the next question is, who the fuck is this guy, that can flout the rules that would easily lead to the demise of many others? And gain massive success thereby?
That is a great question. Anytime you can have people thinking "who the fuck is this guy" in a social setting, you're winning. But keep your game strong, confident, and easy. A weak man wearing a dress is exactly that. A weak man wearing a dress. If people sense you are outside the system, they will attempt to impose the system on you. This can kill you, but it can be a great opportunity to further reinforce your dominance and otherness.
The notion of the rules is what it is for a reason. Rule breakers take big risks. Sometimes, in ways you wouldn't even see. Those big risks can pay big dividends. Always remain within the letter of the law enough that you have plausible deniability.
Remember that what these people are mad about is that they have to do x and y to get approval, while you can do whatever the fuck and get all the attention. It's not fair, right, that you're just the kind of person that succeeds and doesn't GAF, but they aren't. They will socially test you, plot against you, report you to authorities. Anything that doesn't involve a 1 v 1 and confidence to look you in your eyes. Remain within the letter of the law at all times. Use respect and deference when appropriate.
If I argue with a cop, I give that cop power. I don't NEED to argue, right? I have no problem rendering to Caesar and keeping Caesar out of my business. Be open, be calm, even indifferent. I can continue to break social rules indiscriminately by knowing when to pay dues.
More on tactics and techniques later. For now, it's enough to understand the principle. Dressing feminine does not necessarily project femininity. Dressing masculine does not necessarily project masculinity. Being a kingshit alpha is a relative, dependent thing. Frame is not. Create the conflict and let people resolve it themselves. It does not matter if people write you off - of course they're going to write you off. That's how they're defending themselves from the existential threat that you represent. They will continue to attempt to box you in and write you off until they are no longer able to do so, or until you allow them an avenue of gaining your approval, and getting the scary thing on their side; i.e. you getting them on yours.
Understanding social relativity and how people use and apply boxes will allow you to become master of the rules, rather than a mere follower. The rules are your frame. They are your comfort zone. Awkward situations, for the rule breaker, are meat and potatoes.
Narcissism wins, but there is nothing as unattractive as ego. These are manifestations of the same rule, though they seem opposite, as in the above masculine vs feminine in dress. Tune in next time for a full exploration of how to use and diffuse ego. Cheers
