I haven't had to deal with this but I'm not surprised. People who are trying to use marriage to get into the country aren't the most honest people to begin with, so just about any snaky business can be expected. False DV claims? Sure--- why not? She never loved him in the first place--- he was just her ticket into the country-- so once that job is done he's disposable.

The relationship with his Chinese wife lasted a few months; she claimed he hit her; the guy is charged, and the woman gets her Permanent Residency. According to one person:

"The domestic violence provisions of the immigration regulations do not require a conviction in order to satisfy the requirements for domestic violence - a police report and another report from a qualified person may be all that's necessary in order for her to make a claim to proceed to permanent residency (801) based on the domestic violence provisions."

So ANY claim of DV may be enough. I've heard many horror stories of similar things happening here. I can understand and even appreciate the sensitivity to issues of genuine DV, but once it becomes known that just the claim of it benefits, it is ripe for abuse by the unscrupulous.

Every nation has different immigration/marriage rules. Where I am in Canada I've heard of the woman just leaving but no stories of abuse are needed. She can just go any time she wants.

I worked with a guy who, at 74, married a 27 year old undocumented Mexican woman. He died about a year later, and she's still in the states as far as I know. When they got married he was so proud of himself showing off pictures of her to everybody. It was goofy as shit. He had been married at least twice before that I know of, and had a daughter who was significantly older than his most recent (now widowed) wife.

Had a relative meet a women in a certain south east asia country and brought her back here to live and get married and she was all good until about 2 months after wedding then her true nature came out that made most women look sane, she even tried the false DV to try and stay and even tried to marry another guy to stay in the country so he was lucky to get away with only a few mental scars and last i heard she got deported

The bit that scared me the most was before the wedding she was totally normal and sweet then it was like a switch got flipped and she went mental like a 5 yr old
