Think as you want but speak as others do.

It makes a lot of sense. People are most responsive to what they want to hear. But from personal experience and testing there is a way to point valid discussion to controversial topics.

Play the devils advocate.

Or even play playing the devils advocate if you must.

It's a very rare person who is so entrenched in their beliefs that they won't be able to calmly discuss something with you if they believe you are only raising these topics for the sake of discussion.

Because even if you ARE saying things that might otherwise be cause for ill-will or aggression it is their perception that you dont necessarily believe what you say that matters.

Curiosity is no crime by anyone's personal standards. If you frame it in such a way that you seem to have just come across info and want their opinion on the matter people will be glad to explore the issue simply because if they convince you they have earned another ally.

And when they rationalize the new information into their system, chances are the opinions they had before will be altered without you having to argue a single word.

For example:

If anyone ever claims that you are doing something wrong by visiting TRP then just say "I like to see a wide variety of perspectives from all sides of the fence" Then there is no rational reason for anger without new evidence. And the more effort it takes the less people will bother. Its simpler to accept your explanation because it makes sense and appeals to an ideal of avoiding circlejerks.
