I did not activate one. I think its automatically turned on when posting an image, and that you have to manually uncheck it.

It's because insecure posters are trying to promote user engagement on their posts. They feel that your curiosity will cause you to pause on their post and if you have to take the time to click show that you'll be more likely to give them upvotes. It's annoying as fuck and the moderators should just get rid of it because it makes browsing the sub slightly less accessible.
