In response, they established a rituals involving sacrificing objects (and sometimes people) to the water, usually in marshy or boggy areas. They must have believed that these offerings would appease the water and stop it from rising.

I often wonder how future generations will look at our modern rituals, like sorting our trash and using metal straws.
