1.) I have never ever understood patriotism.

What's not to understand? Patriotism is exploit of the fact that humans naturally group by the people in power.

2.) Democracy is a sham

An average person has IQ of 100. Since many voters are eldery while young are not allowed to vote, average voter's IQ is probably below 100. Combine that with power and media, and you get, well, America I suppose.

Perhaps more important than democracy is actually the rule of law. The problem is, the real law is what is experienced by a person, not what stands in the books. So, it's open to interpretations. Which people with power can leverage. Or in some countries, like my home country, where the legal system is setup in a way that it takes decades before you can appeal to EUHRC, in essence making "rule of law" a farce, as the local legal system can fuck you over before you can escape it.

Still, both are better than North Korea. One can at last leave a democratic state and move somewhere where they find it less opressing. That's why I like the EU - it gives options.

3.) Religion

LOL, clearly another scheme by the powerful people for free slaves. Just read the first chapter of Bhagavad-gita, it clearly spells how religion is used for soldiers to give their lives for king's goals. Nothing has changed in thousands of years.

I feel that to be something, anything in life, one has to only think of themselves- not their people, not their government or nation.

We are in essence born in prison and slavery. There are just various degrees of freedom one can get, and some lucky random Joes to promote the American Dream.

We are all dead on the long term. Including our kids and their kids. Humanity is a dead end street anyway. So whatever. Just live to maximise your gain and minimise your pain. if you are a psychopat you can do it without consideting how other people feel. Most of the rest of us have been programmed to put others before ourselves.

1) patriotism and nationalism is born out of an evolutionary psych mechanism which factors in-group/out-group dynamics. Japanese people expressing Japanese patriotism makes sense, because what you essentially are encouraging is a future for a homogenous Japanese people. Patriotism for a nation which is racially diverse is retarded, hence why you see in America is mostly only White guys who are "patriotic" because the country is still a "white country" by majority - there will be no American patriotism in 40-50 years, it will be a muddled mess of parallel and hostile groups existing within an artificially sovereign nation. Other racial demographics simply vote for their own self interests which have nothing to do with the overall strength of the nation.

2) Democracy is only as good as the average citizen, or average IQ. In a homogenous, high IQ nation, democracy isn't so bad so long as you don't have women voting for mass immigration. Again, diversity also fucks democracy because every group will vote for their own self interests with little to no care for the overarching nation ie. it was no coincidence that the highest black voter turnout ever was for a black man, and the second highest ever was for that same black man 4 years later. What about Barack Obama's policies were any different from any other Democrat? Nothing - he was black and they wanted a black president and he had a good chance of winning. They thought he was going to do all this shit for the black community specifically - no care as to how that effected everyone else.

3) Religion is used as a pseudo-objective means of morality and setting up of a civilizations social code. You cannot run a highly productive society with social darwinism, and in the absence of religion that is all that is left. Our ancestors were smart enough to realize that many of our evolutionary practices, urges, and proclivities were detrimental to long-term group cohesion. For instance, religion is the reason we have marriage. Monogamous marriage was created to assure that every man (in the overwhelming majority) would have a wife and children. This does several things for society. Strong nuclear families make strong communities which police themselves and are trusting of and helpful to their neighbors which allows tax dollars to go to other things rather than fighting crime and doling out welfare checks. Marriage also ensured that women wouldn't be a burden to society or to their parents. It ensured that the number of "incels" were kept to a minimum by policing female sexuality. And etc etc etc.

The flag waving stuff I never got either. The ideals behind the founding of this country I would die for. However, we are so far away from those ideals that I laugh when either side believes that they stand for individual freedom. I am with you, the government is like fire, you need it for warmth and to cook food. However, if it becomes too big it will destroy you and everything around it. The current generation does not understand this sadly.

We (the U.S.) are not a democracy, we are a representative democracy. There is a huge difference, a full out democracy is mob rule and has never worked for long periods of time. That is why States passing laws invalidating the electoral college is dangerous....and something I am willing to fight against.....

People are for China's authoritarian government....as long as that government pushes the ideals and beliefs of it's supporters. As soon as that government starts taking away rights you care about or starts pushing agendas you dislike, then you are against it. This is simply intellectual laziness and honestly self-centered.

That is why the left LOVES giving the president power when they have their guy in office. Afterwards, they become strict constitutionalists on the limitation of power when they are NOT in control.

About religion, I am a recovering Catholic. I believe there is a God and I believe the soul lives on after death. You don't know me but I am as logical as it comes. I don't believe in things unless they can be proven or touched. However, I have had things happen to me in my life that cannot be explained.

Religion is man made, it was not created by God. Jesus came down and directly confronted the Pharisees for following the law only. Laws that they themselves did not follow and some created by men. Now we have a Catholic church that does the same things..... probably even worse.

It is not survival of the fittest. A lot of people out there still help others. I agree with you a lot of Americans have fallen down when it comes to donating time/money to those in need. However, I try to bring new people with me when I serve others. I have turned a lot of my friends onto volunteerism, it makes your soul feel alive...and that there is a purpose for your life on Earth.

Not an attack on you OP but I felt somewhat the same way back a few years ago. It helped me to get out to soup kitchens, food pantries, childrens hospitals and donate my time and money to them. It is easy to sit back and blame the world and do nothing to fix it. Thanks is also a form.od hypocrisy.

Get up, go help people! If everyone sat around angry at society for not helping and they themselves did nothing to help out....where would we be? Even worse off than we are now.

Democracy is tyranny of the majority. If more than 50% of people vote to take your house; they can. America like Rome is a Republic which is a restricted government that can't pass law outside it's constitution or rule of law.

Being an atheistic scientist promoting a world run based on science is probably the most ethical one can be. A holy being open to new scientific insights.
