I'd be increasingly careful with importing generic items from China for online retail.

Fulfilment options are becoming far easier and cheaper for Chinese manufacturers to sell items directly in Europe / US on Amazon, Ebay etc thus cutting you out as the middleman.

Coupled with the fact that fraud / under invoicing are quite common with Chinese businesses (and European / US governments do little to stop them) you will find it increasingly harder to compete with them. You're in the UK so you will be aware of the massive VAT fraud by Chinese importers.

Amazon and eBay are also actively trying to court Chinese manufacturers to cut out the middleman and sell direct.

The only way to counter the above (with generic goods) is to go private label.
