This weekend I was spending some time with my housemate and his girlfriend, when the proverbial question arose: ‘Are you seeing anyone at the moment?’ This time I thought I’d have some fun with it, so I told them that I’ve been seeing someone on and off for a few weeks. My housemate was very happy and said ‘I’m happy for you man – that’s great’. He believes a man needs to be in a relationship to be happy, and has rarely spent time as a single man.

His girlfriend went quiet all of a sudden, and there was a subtle change in her tone. I would say that the emotion I was picking up was disappointment. She asked in an ever-so dejected tone who the girl was, how we had ‘met’, etc. After a while of being silent, she told my housemate that she was tired, and ended up going to bed. For the rest of the weekend she remained somewhat sad and sullen when in my presence.

Looking back now, I’m starting to connect the dots. There have been a few times in recent months when she has been flirtatious towards me after a few drinks, and been extra touchy-feely. She has also dropped several compliments about my looks and personality. I’m also aware that although they’ve been dating for close to a year, she has not had sex with him yet. I wondered whether it was possible that she had planned to monkey-branch towards me; and also given that my salary is substantially higher than my housemates’.

Tl;DR: I am wondering whether my housemate’s girlfriend was planning to monkey-branch onto me.
