No. That's been the entire social dynamic for almost the entirety of human history. It's one of things that makes being a dude awesome. Even if you're ugly as shit, become sufficiently successful and that will be what defines you and attracts others. I love it.

There are some things I like about the sub, but some is kind of off the wall.

To be fair to the authors, this is a symposium paper. Generally, these kinds of presentations are made for your colleagues to critique your work and as written often would not survive the rigors of vetting for publication.
