If you can’t pay in the US, they will go after your income directly and your bank accounts. If you can’t pay, they will put you in jail for life. Now it will start for a moment. But you can’t make money in jail. Which means you can’t pay off the increasing debt when you come out. This means you stay in jail for the rest of your life. They will also strip you of licenses and other things if you don’t pay at first.

Honestly, only action you can take is flee the country and never turn back.

.In my country, they're arrested. Yes, there is a lot of men being arrested when they became unemployed and can't afford alimony/child suporty anymore.

In India, you get arrested on recovery warrants. You are produced in the court and then judge forces you to pay and also to clear the arrears. If you refuse to pay, you get remanded in custody and sent to jail until you pay. If you pay once and get out of jail and try to avoid payment again, court attaches your bank account and alimony/spousal maintenance gets deducted automatically. They also attach your movable and immovable assets with recovery warrant like car, house etc. They can put them on auction and pay the woman with the recovered amount. Overall, you cannot escape it but you can try to delay it. Now let's talk about leaving the country. So to leave a country you will need a visa and I believe you meant a work or permanent residence type visa in this scenario since tourist visa won't work anyway. So in India for any type of permanent resident or work visa almost all consulates require police verification document. It's a signed paper from your local police that states that you are free to go outside the country. But in India in 99% of alimony/spousal support cases are clubbed with other criminal cases such as domestic violence etc. so police won't give you clearance hence no visa. Let's assume you are one of the lucky ones and don't get bashed by the criminal cases by your beloved knife (wife), and you get a visa and successfully leave the country, she can always file the criminal cases later and police can issue a lookout circular against you. Then Interpol will be after your ass if you happen to be in a country which is treaty to India. Only way out is go to a country which is not treaty to India but very difficult.
