I have actually had female friends I've not found sexually attractive, and on cold nights I'd think they were a good friend for getting into the bed, though I've only ever had them act as bed warmers then kicked them out when I got in. I tend to have my bed as the best when people sleep over, and far enough north/poor enough, I think it could make sense. Though if you're doing that to keep warm you might as well cuddle.
