I used a throwaway account ages ago just to experiment. I didn't exactly say what I was but I deliberately allowed people to assume I was male by my nickname which was unisex but more often a man's name and by deliberately not using certain pronouns. I acted as my real self and I got more upvotes and far less disagreement. I was actually ruder and people perceived it as funny rather than being a "bitch".

People usually assume I'm male online if I have a generic username and am not discussing my past or my views on gender issues and dating. Not sure why, but the same type of guys who are quick to be like "yeah yeah dumb fds female" are the types that try to joke along with what I'm saying and act kind of submissive if they don't realise I'm a woman.
