I've been a loner for the most part of my life. I never had problem with it. I found most people either irritating, bullying or annoying. Always trying to make me do what I don't enjoy, not interested in or avoid. Like drinking. Why can't I do it when I want, not when others want. I always felt that I lose myself or fail to express myself whenever I'm with people. I'm naturally introverted guy so apparently it's okay to make fun of me. So I usually kept to myself, socializing every once In a while.

The truth is my definition of a " friend" was quite different than of most people. For me a "friend" was someone who I can share my secrets with, someone who I can rely on, someone who I can let live with myself and be okay with it. But for most people "friend" means a drinking buddy or someone they can call when they need some cash.

A guy I knew probably had hundreds of such "friends". Dude was alright, until I realized that no matter how close I will get to him, for him I will always be one of his 100's of "friends". Not to mention he always asks handout from others. Such a person can never cover your back when needs be. He literally makes "friends" just to get a free beer. Realizing it, I stopped contacting with him much.

Perhaps having no friends is a bad thing. But it's always better than having "friends" who only need you for a free beer.
