My grandpa passed away in late December at the age of 84. He regularly watched the news with my dad and me. We also discussed life and how the world has changed over the last several years. He was also a cop for 40 years before he retired.
He wasn't in the best health when he passed (multiple recent hospitalizations and had a stroke about a week before his death) but the day he died, he went about his morning just like he normally would. Got up, drank coffee, sat on the couch, fell asleep, and then the next thing you knew, he was dead. As if he decided he wanted to move on that day.
My dad and I stayed with him for a while about a month before this took place (he moved pretty far away when he retired) and when we were with him we thought it may be the last time. He wasn't doing great healthwise, and was also disgusted at what the world around him had become.
Sure enough, right after he passed away we also got the coronavirus and now all the major cities in America are burning down. He definitely picked a great time to go, and in peace without any pain.
As a 25 year old man, I'm not very optimistic that things will get better in my lifetime. I see a potential civil war looming, and oh boy if Trump gets reelected...this whole protest/riot thing could just be a prelude for more awful things to come.
It's too bad things are like this, but I've learned that it's not my fight. I'm happy living in a small town away from all of this violence and anarchy. Wouldn't mind going to another damn football game someday, but if it means dodging stray bullets from these fucking lunatics, it ain't worth it. Pretty unbelievable what things have come to. Doing the best I can, but have to say I'm a bit envious of grandpa. Things are probably a lot more peaceful on the other side.
Just want to also give my 2 cents on this protest thing:
As Stalin once said, "One death is a tragedy, one million is a statistic."
It looks like a white cop did a horrible thing that led to a black man's death. And now it has led to countless deaths and serious injuries to innocent civilians, cops, and secret service agents due to anarchists and poor control efforts by Democratic mayors. And not to mention billions of dollars in property damage across the country.
It sure looks like a racial murder by a cop, but we don't even know that for certain yet. Was it a horrible act? Of course, and it's unforgivable.
However, I've kind of had it with this whole race war thing. Blacks have the same rights as whites. Heck, even more in some cases (college acceptances via race quotas comes to mind). In cities like Chicago where the crime rates are constantly through the roof, they've cultivated this culture on their own. In most cases, a black man's life is heavily influenced by irresponsible or ABSENT parents. It's a big problem that, just like any other problem, comes from the top. Poor choices by parents leading to kids with no other choice but crime, since they're living out on the streets by themselves. It's a brutal, and very sad cultural issue. Some of these poor kids didn't have a shot from the beginning....and it's all the white people's fault? And big daddy government is taking 25% of my paycheck so that some of it can go to these single mom's who are "raising" their blood or crip kid to go rob a bank or a food store? Give me a fucking break.
The cops that then have to deal with these lunatics for years on end, risking their lives because there are thousands of gang members terrorizing their city. We never hear about those cops. We only hear about the ONE awful cop who killed a black guy, and now all white people and all cops are evil? Go fuck yourselves. Maybe I'm wrong, but even if my opinion offends people, I don't care. That's just how I see it.
Stay safe everyone.
