Now, I barely drink. I say barely because in February of 2019 I had roughly 1 beer after close to 5 years without any substantial ETOH. I did have a sip of wine in 2016. In other words, it just isn't my thing. Never really liked it.
I don't think heavy ETOH use among males is acceptable either, and some of the biggest assholes I have had the displeasure of knowing were drunks. Blood Alcohol levels over 600, full blown DTs in the 300s to 400s. Seriously. 400 is a coma territory for a normal person.
But this is about the ladies. See, this particular topic is something near and dear to me. It turns out, a lot of the women I knew and worked with were drunks. No other word for it. Drunks. Alcoholics.

With the prescription drug rates, mental illness rates, and the tendency for people, not just women, to self medicate with things like alcohol and also marijuana, there is a chance that increased alcoholism rates among women is masking higher rates of illness.
It isn't uncommon to get a little messed up once or twice when young, but when a 34 year old woman needs to be taken home after barfing in the bathroom at a work Christmas party ( seen it), a mother of 4 tells me she likes to drink wine when she cleans around the house and doesn't like cleaning the house sober, an early 30s women tells me she has anxiety and depression and can only feel comfortable talking to me (on Facebook 3 years ago) when she drinks, and then proceeds do this repeatedly and send me pictures of herself in her underwear, it starts to become apparent there may be a problem. If that same women tells me she doesn't want to drink around me over fears I will, "seduce her", and then weeks later proceeds to come over to my house with wine ( but no opener and since I don't drink I don't have one she leaves), and you later read about all of the false rape allegations where alcohol is regarded as a pass for any form of female responsibility, you might start to think that you (myself) dodged a pretty big bullet. All of these women would be considered functional, and normal. Believe me, I have seen far worse. Ever seen a druggy street woman contort after she got 4mg of Narcan IV? It isn't pretty. So, yes, those women were functional.
If the media, if feminism, if other women, and if the government really cared about women's health (men's too), then we would stop celebrating alcohol consumption the way we do. We would stop acting like it's liberating to get fucked up. It isn't mature, it isn't sexy at all because drunks piss themselves and smell horrible, and it isn't something that anyone should aspire towards.
That hasn't been the message for 20 to 30 years now. Successful, sexy women are routinely portrayed in media drinking liberal amounts of liberating wine. Fun party girls have their sexual desirability affirmed by the number of drinks bought for them, and the drug cartels, I mean alcohol manufacturers, have been making more of those designer malt liquor drinks for decades. Stuff like Mike's Hard Lemonade, or some disgusting canned garbage a woman was drinking when I was seeing her years back. Found out, after she told me, that she had actually wreck her car weeks before after she drank too much at a work party. A work party!! She later did go to jail for 7 days after a second DUI.
I mean, what the fuck!? Do other guys run into this levels of drunkenness? It isn't good. It shouldn't be accepted. Finally, men, all men, should be pushing back against it. I know I am not going to start some sobriety movement, but we need to stop normalizing drunkenness among women.
