Actually the governor of Maine, Paul LePaige, did say that about rape.

Well whatever, the problem here is that they seem to think that's what all men would respond to it and then making the generalizing statement that men overreact alot. They're pitting a men vs women situation and trying to make out women as somehow inherently morally superior.

Okay, so you're going from "no man ever" to "well, not all men," with a serious implication of "so what if a person with actual power said that, they don't ALL say that so who cares." I call that moving the goal posts, don't you?

What kind of mental gymnastics are you pulling to put those words in my mouth? Are you really missing the point of my post? The point is that this lady seems to think that one man speaks for all men and she speaks for all women. I'm just saying that no man I've ever met ever said these things when talking with women on the issues that matter.
BTW, that's not moving the goalposts, that's correcting my statement.

Mental gymnastics? I just misinterpreted what you said. Sorry about that, but it happens.
I haven't met a man in person who's said those things either. I think the vast majority of men would cringe at the thought that someone could say such a ridiculous thing. But when you debate controversial things, whether they should be controversial or not (like people controlling their own bodies) you do meet loonies and I think that's all this post is saying. It's like "holy shit, look what some guys say." It's not meant to be a huge generalization like "some men say this so all men think this."

I feel like this was written by a double agent...

Here's how I would respond to it.
1st one: Well, yea.
2nd one: that's fine, but I don't want to have my taxes go to someone wanting an abortion because it's just a "clump of cells"
3rd one: Agreed. At least you aren't one of those feminists who insist that we teach men not to rape. (I don't know anyone who has questioned why they can't hit a girl who is self-defending herself)
4th one: You saying women don't overreact when they think that all men are rapists?

I like it, but on the 3rd one it should also be vice-versa
