I met this guy 2 years ago in school, a short while later he punched me in the back for pretty much no reason. I gave him a solid kick to the leg which made him shut up. In hindsight I figured this must’ve been his way of shittesting me

2 years later/a few weeks ago we were drunk and got into a playful fight (we do this often but never when drunk), then I said let’s stop and he said okay, gave me one last punch in the face which made my head hit the wall and caused a bleeding wound on my forehead. He apologized immediately several times, got first aid for me and everything plus I was drunk so I didn’t really care enough to be angry at him. He even offered to give me 100€ as compensation (which is a lot of money for me) which I declined. The next day he apologized again immediately in the morning so I thought ok let’s forget all this.

But another day later he started being disrespectful, insulting me for no reason etc. I ended up blocking him everywhere because I didn’t want to put up with that. I also cut contact with most of our mutual friends

Should I have punched him back to not look like a beta? In general, will people always take me less seriously if I don’t punch people back, even if it’s objectively the better option to stay non-violent?
