I'm in my late 20s and work in construction as a superintendent, so I'm generally dealing with middle-aged men all day long. Every now and then I get into a spat with a subcontractor or a PM, and they yell at me. It's not considered uncommon; I've seen plenty of other supers experience it, but what I can't figure out is how they are just seemingly unaffected after it happens? I just got yelled at on the phone and I'm RATTLED. Physically shaken, overthinking everything, etc. But I know a coworker who's dealt with the same guy and would just hang up, say "man that guy's a dick", then carry on and act like nothing happened. How do they do that and how can I? Part of me thinks it's because they've been around longer and have dealt with it more, but I know young guys too who aren't fazed when someone's screaming in their face. I wish I could care less I guess.
