Women are upset about the government shutdown because government has increasingly become the Man in their life.

Tom Leykis was talking to a woman from Sweden who was saying she didn't need a man, and he pointed out all the social services in Sweden that men pay for via heavy taxation, which she receives for free. She then conceded she was dependent on men after all.

The last shutdown in the 90s was great, there were no more stupid laws being passed for a brief glorious interval and it coincided with the Internet taking off.

It ended because politicians saw that the country was moving on without them. We don't need Big Government after all. It's like a drug dealer who cuts you off so you can see how "important" he is and how much you need him... until you get through the withdrawal and then realize you're better off. Or like a girl who keeps dicking you around... but then you finally move on to other girls and she suddenly realizes she's twisting in the wind. "I was just kidding! Let's get back together!"

This also illustrates the problems with making a single point of failure for everything. Instead of robustness and decentralization, everything gets rolled into one big fat boondoggle where a thousand unrelated functions get shut off when there's a fight over any one of them. It's like having ONE light switch for your entire house and all appliances.

Articles like this from major publications are golden.

Yes, they're dripping with literal, honest-to-goodness sexism. Yes, they're peppered with references to other sexist videos and articles, like "Do Women Make Better [Stock] Traders Than Men?".

But that's why they're so valuable.

These articles from major publications will never be taken down, so we'll forever be able to point to these articles and say:

See? This is why it's completely normal for men to feel bitter about their treatment.

From elementary school to the workplace, men and boys are expected to put up (and agree!) with articles celebrating that women are simply better at [X].

Of course, men and boys are maligned as old-fashioned monsters if they so dare as to write anything even hinting at the opposite perspective.

In short, western society handles women with kid gloves and handles men with bare fists.

And no, feminists aren't fighting against this disparity. Stop it. Imagine the feminist outcry if a man wrote a similar article about men. We'd never hear the end of it.

The problem at the center of the government shutdown isn't the fact that the two parties* can't get along* its that there is a complex economic/debt crisis that is compounded by high entitlement spending. Now leave it to a woman to simplify a complex economic debate into tone shaming. Why cant we all get along? Because we have a super difficult problem to work out and alot is on the line, that's why. No amount of female hand holding and understanding of each others feelings is going to fix the issue.

On a related note, this image is the latest thing my feminist acquaintances on Facebook have been circle-fingering about. I think I've seen it posted about five times now.

Notice how female irrationality nationwide is now completely okay because of the actions of a small number of men in Washington.

Notice also how this complex economic issue is reduced to "a bunch men want their way." As if it were exactly as simple as that.

Most of the Senate’s 20 women had gathered the previous night for pizza, salad and wine in the offices of New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen, a Democrat.

They showed guys wheeling in the Pizza to feed the Senators didn't notice the Wine and Salad . Just the (common folks) up there working for the people.

Every feminist in this country is experiencing cognitive dissonance right now.

On one hand, "everyone knows" women are better at reaching across the aisle and making compromises, while men are more likely to stubbornly hold their ground no matter what. Obviously, this means women are better leaders.

On the other hand, every single feminist in the country is thanking their lucky stars that Obama (a man) and Harry Reid (also a man) stubbornly stood their ground for as long as they did (like men do).

Example A: Rachel Maddow gleefully holds up a chart showing how the Republicans got nothing they demanded.

Had women been running the show and being such great compromisers, Republicans would have come away with half the things on that list.
