I don't know how many of you have listened to the Weeknd, but my girlfriend says his music just makes her panties want to fall off. When I listen to it, i feel really depressed. He's really morbid, dark, demeaning, self-loathing, and I just don't comprehend the appeal of it. Strange though- when I talked to her about what she likes about his music ("everything"), she could not comprehend why anything he was talking about would come across as depressing.
Maybe the fact that he doesn't care about anything is appealing in a dark triad way? he's singing about having more money and pussy than anyone can imagine, so maybe it's a status/HV thing. I feel viscerally disturbed when I listen to some of his songs. Both because I want that power and the appeal he has (especially to my girlfriend), but also because the things he displays in his lyrics are qualities I would never want to internalize, and that conundrum brings out tons of beta insecurities in me. So i'm very curious to look further into exactly what it is about this guy is so triggering to me. Give him a listen, I'd love a red pill take on this dude's massive appeal to the female audience.
