A lot of people who are considered high functioning adults, believe in completely made up nonsense like horoscope signs, crystals, magic rituals etc having real meaning and power, despite total lack of evidence just because:

1) the herd mentality makes it feel like the power of horoscope etc is a self-evident fact

2) it makes people feel good believing these things for one reason or another
