Coming from an American perspective (but probably this is the case in Canada and UK as well) but dating is much easier for a man if he lives or goes to the country.
I lived in Miami, New York City, Boston, and Seattle for a year. All of them were ridiculous. All these women come stacked with a checklist of requirements.
You have some really interesting towns and unincorporated areas with a decent amount of civilization. I even went into the Navajo reservation where they were quite friendly. There's also the Mennonites in some places, there is a whole town of Muslims in Michigan apparently, and also in Mississippi, all you have to do is not be from Mississippi and you will do fine.
People are attracted to exotic things and often times those in the country and unincorporated areas have a different idea of what the city is like. Young women from the country are often excited to date a man from the big city and take her away from the toils of her little town. This is why it's so much easier and why in previous ages, our forefathers would do it.
When it's the opposite case, it just looks kind of funny and wacky. Imagine a female 29-year-old NYU graduate from a middle-class Yankee family dating a Lakota 35-year-old that she picked off from the mountains out west. Or if she dated a ranching boy from Alabama. It would be kind of silly and wacky. Nobody would even take it seriously.
But, of course, with men, it has the opposite effect and chemistry flows better.
