It’s amazing the amount of divorced dudes I’ve had conversations with (that regret marriage) who describe their path to marriage as “Because that’s just what you do, right?”

These interactions encourage me to reflect on, what I describe as, societal autopilot. The set of train tracks most commonly followed in society from birth until death. Grow up, school, job, meet someone, marry, kids, retire. Some people do this and enjoy it, others end up trapped by it. Their marriage is demanding, their wife expects a lot. They sacrifice their own health and well-being to please their spouse who treats them as nothing more than a provider.

My message is this: Stop and think. Reflect. Once you realise that you don’t actually HAVE to take this path, you can then find your own. For me, I’m a single guy in my mid twenties and I have zero desire for a family.

Stop putting someone else’s needs before yours, stop submitting to family expectation and pressure, stop working somewhere that doesn’t give a fuck about you and sucks the life from you. Stop being on autopilot. The “traditional” path is so ingrained in society that it’s become an invisible, but fragile force field. Once you wake up to it, you’re free.

Go your own way boys
